4th edition Experience

It can be said that our organizing committee spared no expense to offer Spark the Change Montreal participants a completely new experience. Organizing a unique event that would offer the most possible value in a virtual training context was their main goal.

In addition to attending a dozen updated and original interactive workshops, each participant will receive a “ready-to-Spark” surprise kit at home. Not only will the content of this box help ignite the spark of change in you, but it will also contribute to your enjoyment during the event and beyond!

4th Edition Program

More than ever, the raison d’être of Spark the Change aligns with our new reality. The need to change and adjust is now part of our daily lives, in all spheres of our lives. The theme of Spark the Change 2021, “The Transitional 20s”, resides right in the heart of the programme that we offer.

Spark the Change Montreal offers an interactive and humane path with generous programming that will stagger over four weeks in April. Every Thursday afternoon for three weeks, you will attend participatory workshops led in turn by the duo Rémi Tremblay and François Beauregard, Jon Husband and Eve Pomeroy. Each of these inspiring speakers will guide and encourage us to make the transition “From Ego to Eco”. Then, at week 4, we will dive into three half-day workshops and conferences that will equip and inspire you to navigate this new post-Covid era.

In total, you will have the equivalent of three days of interactions spread over 4 weeks in April to allow you to create new links, consolidate your network and acquire new knowledge. This represents one extra day of training compared with last editions, this is significant!

So mark your calendars and come Spark with us!  The spark of change lights up on April 8, 2021!

Informal reflection activity under the theme of the 4th edition

This year's event takes place over 6 half-days spread over 4 weeks in April. On each of these days, from 12:00 to 12:30, participants will arrive in a large virtual room on Zoom. Upon arrival, participants will be able to participate in an exercise under the theme: "The Transitional 20s: From Ego to Eco.”

Over the course of the six days of Spark the Change MTL, the reflection work will evolve and provide concrete ways to initiate the transformations necessary to adapt to the major changes already underway in our organizations.

From digital transformation to climate change, artificial intelligence to greater employee empowerment, to the realization that we (people, business, community, planet) are all interconnected in some way, we are at the onset of this century’s version of the roaring 20s.

Under Pressure - the sequel

Early last spring I was all set to talk about the arrival (and acceleration) of a confluence of unsolvable crises - climate, geo-political, financial, cultural, sociological - that have created a rapidly growing awareness of emergent complexity based on information flows in an interconnected society.

And then 2020 happened !

One year later we’ll look back and forward at what it has been and will mean to live, work and activate change in an increasingly interconnected and fluid world.

Shifting the Social Field

While the term ‘social field’ may not be a term we hear often, it is something we know well.Walking into any social space – a school or an office, for example – we soon get a sense of the quality of relating that characterizes that space. It is reflected in the way people converse, organize, make decisions and move into action. The social field is a way of being in organizations that we help to create with our own actions, but is also bigger than us and that shapes our behaviour.

When a key leadership challenge of our times is to create organizations where creativity springs from all levels of the system, how can we account for the difference between an organization where people regularly step into new territory and take new action, and one where people play it safe and ‘keep their heads down’? It likely has more to do with the quality of the social field than the individuals. So, as interveners, how can we impact the quality of the social field? What can we do to cultivate generative social fields which support ourselves and others step into courageous new action?

In this session, we will work with the social field as a framework for understanding the deeper dimensions of organizational life. Through exercises and dialogue, we will explore the social field intervention tools immediately available to every one of us: the quality of our attention, our capacity to connect with our own sense of purpose and source of inspiration, and the willingness to nurture a space – internally and externally – to bring into being what wants to be born.

Human-Centric Transformation: What Does that Look Like?

Is your organization going through a transformation? Having experienced unprecedented change in the past year, you may have had to adapt your routine practices.

But have you considered how this period of change may have affected your people?

Tackling transformation from a human-centric and holistic perspective, we will explore the Organizational Transformation and Alignment (OTA) framework and its four pillars: strategy and culture, leadership, organizational practices and employees.

We will also discuss how to create alignment between these four pillars. The OTA framework was designed by The Pillars after 20 years of working within the field of organizational change and transformation. It became clear to us that change initiatives often fell short due to a lack of involvement of the people affected by the change and to misalignment concerning the change.

We have been refining our framework for the last three years and have recently designed an accompanying assessment, the Organizational Transformation and Alignment Survey (OTAS), which we are in the process of beta testing.

This survey allows organizations to measure alignment between the framework’s four pillars and highlights factors that may help or hinder the success of a change initiative. Using a case study approach, we will lay out the foundational principles of the OTA framework and take participants through a case in which the framework was applied. Together, we will explore what it means to adopt a human-centric and holistic approach to creating alignment and engagement in the change process.

Coaching circles are probably the single most effective method in the u.lab for experiencing the entire Theory U process in 90 min! By ‘experiencing the U process’ we are referring to the experience of a shift in the social field from normal discussion to collective presence and generative dialogue. By using this unique Theory U based Coaching Circle framework, participants are able to experience what it means to listen deeply and offer insights from a social field of, the three cornerstones of ‘leading from the future as it emerges’: Open Mind, Open Heart and Open Will. Coaching Circles can be profound and generative experiences for everyone involved, whether you are the person being coached or one of the four coaches in the circle.
